Mod Fuck Explosion

An American reviewer has called Mod Fuck Explosion'' a biker comedy for the Beavis and Butthead generation''. This is probably true. You could also say Mod Fuck Explosion is Beavis and Butthead's version of Quadrophenia (1979). Mod Fuck Explosion is a film about hormone-crazed teenagers in an anonymous city, trying to cope with life's existential problems through bragging about sex or fights. London's greatest wish is to own a leather jacket. M 16, her boyfriend, wants to become a gang member and own a gun. Around them are the Mods, where the guys only talk about breaking heads and the girls about being their sex kittens. The Mods' rivals are the Japanbikers (Asian-Americans). They have decided to have a final show-down. London and M 16 try to make sense of their lives in a condemned environment, where there is even less hope for the adults than the teenagers- London's valium-popping mother tries every so often to seduce her and her brother. London can't decide whether to lose her virginity in exchange for a leather jacket or whether to sleep with M 16. He is obsessed by sleazy stories in the newspapers and has a tendency to vomit when he's in a tight corner. Life is hard for the teenagers in Mod Fuck Explosion. Even if it is degrading to be a virgin, something to be taken care of as soon as possible, no one is sure whether sex is fun or not. Is it nice? Is it better than masturbating? Is it worth all the energy? These are major problems for the adolescents in the film. They live in a brutal world full of anxiety. As brutal and bloody as London's vision when she is walking through slaughter-house offal. The film is expressive and anti-aesthetic. From time to time signs pump out guiding messages. There is a collage of sounds, images, visions and narrative voices illustrating London's thoughts. The cast is young, with more looks than talent. The lines are theatrical, funny and with a couple of four-letter-words in every sentence. Everything is rounded off nicely by a good soundtrack. Mod Fuck Explosion is unlike most other films. It is absurd and hysterical but still relevant with it's underground, low-budget feeling. It is pill-popping Mods, Japan-bikers, with director Jon Moritsugu as leader, and rough punk in the background. It certainly is Beavis and Butthead. But above all it's Mod Fuck Explosion. AS
