The city of Metropolis is divided between the people above ground and the robots/workers below. Robots attempting to reach ground level are punished with termination. During the celebrations of the Ziggurat, an enormous newly built tower complex in the centre of town, the powerful Duke Red declares it to be the start of a new era. But there are revolutionary forces rising from the underground levels, and in the midst of everything stands super robot Tima.
Metropolis is a reanimated version of Fritz Lang's futuristic dystopia, beautiful in its apocalyptic spirit. With less political dimensions and more existential science fiction à la Blade Runner or A.I. Artificial Intelligence, it focuses on the question of animated life within the technological society.
