Tough and hardboiled, clever and sneaky - Memories of Murder is the story a bout the Special Investigation Taskforce ofthe Seoul Metropolitan Police Bureau, and a bewildered serial killer on the run.
Based on a real life story, this South Korean film lets Y0U into the centre of a murder chase led by Park Doo-man (played by Song Kang-ho), and Cho Yong-Koo (Kim Rwe-ha), two country cops working purely on instinct, using the old fashioned style where dedicated commitment is the key to chase down a criminal and the fists do the talking. They are set up with a new partner, the cerebral and patient city cop detective Seo Tae-yoon (played by Kim Sang-Kyung), who punches data and finds his answers through hard evidence.
After ten victims, the cops are at a loss and the maniac is still
haunting the South Korean countryside. The brilliant Song Kang-ho (Joint SecuritY Area, 2000, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, 2002), stars in title lead as experienced and roughened copper Park Doo-man, and with an exceptional screenplay and captivating cinematography, the film was shot on multiple locations throughout South Korea. Memories of murder is a hardboiled, yet sophisticated suspense thriller in which death fusions with laughter, as it so commonly does within South Corean film, which seems to have established its own, unique trademarks.
