On her way to school, Min-ah finds a diary in Which she gains an insight into the relationship between two girls in her school, Hyo-shin and Shi-eun. Min-ah is drawn into a mystic world where the diary plays' a vital part, especially When Hyo-shin dies and her spirit seeks revenge. The film has been seen as a continuation of Whispering Corridors (Park Ki-hyeong, 1998 and shown at the Stockholm International Film Festival in 1999), wich is somewhat misleading. Certainly Memento Mori is also staged in a girls grammar school and a dead girl's spirit plays an important part. But the likeness ends there, By using a fragmentary narrative and an almost complete absence of visible violence, the film depicts the reality and Bream world of these 17-year old girls. The film is a good exponent of the formative and thematic trends in the new Korean film.
