Mästerverket

Mästerverket

av Linus Tunström

A foggy, Swedish Twin Peaks with moose hunt, gossip and infidelity serve as the backdrop for this haunting story in four parts. A priest, struggling with the legacy of his father and a stagnated marriage, faces a deep crisis in his spiritual beliefs as well as his sexual abilities. Only the masterpiece he decides to paint in the church will regain trust from the people that he loves. When a mysterious man with a doubtful agenda turns up on the church’s doorstep the village is turned upside down. Young director Linus Tunström, awarded at the Cannes Film Festival for his short film To Be Continued, creates an evocative Bulgakov’s Master and Margarita meets David Lynch type of film that slowly closes in on the viewer raising the questions: Can a “masterpiece” save your soul and make everything right? Or is the redemption much closer at hand? As the fog clears the mysteries are painfully unraveled and the unavoidable tragedy is a fact. ERIK BREDHE
