Marcello Mastroianni: I Remember, Yes I Remember

A large scale documentary, that turned into a film commemorating Marcello Mastroianni as well as an exposé about the golden age of Italian film.
This is a film that got raging reviews in Italy. Anna Maria Tató lived together with Mastroianni for over twenty years, despite the fact that he never divorced his wife. His family and daughters are accusing Tató for being biased, using sekulations and Mastroianni's death to gain a profit. Shamefull accusations! It was Mastroianni, himself, who insisted that this interview film be made, with no script, allowing him to speak freely and share his memories. The dokumentary was made between shoots of Mastroiannis last feature film Resa till världens början, by Manoel De Oliveira. A beautiful light surrounds the actor, who once again is in a great story telling mood, despite his serious illness.
To talk about directing, in this case, is difficult. Whether Marcello is playing himself, or the actor Mastroianni, is hard to tell. He just is in front of the camera, with an undenying intensity and self-revelation. Anna Maria Tató's film should be compulsory for all aspiring actors, despite the fact that Marcello does not seem to possess any trade secrets. Just two truths prevail; the theatre and Luchino Visconti was his entire school.
This film contains everything; death, love and life as a gigantic party and game. ''Bang you're a gangster and I'm watching you. That's the only way to make movies'', was what one of the biggest and most humble actors in the world thought - and he didn't need to go to Hollywood to reach super star status. Mastroianni's personal memories are mixed with a choice of clips from his over 160 films, where in some unusual scenes you can even see the great actor dance and sing. Tatós commeration film is, above all, a lesson in the art of living life to the fullest and remaining humble despite great success.
