Luster

Luster

av Everett Lewis

Director Everett Lewis brings us to gay L.A. and the world according to blue-haired Jackson. We meet him the morning after an orgy, surrounded by beautiful bodies, convinced that he is in love with Billy who he met the night before. But Billy is in love with musician Sonny, who is into S/M. Then there is Sam, owner of the record store where Jackson works while waiting for his breakthrough as a poet. Sam is in love with Jackson and so is Derek, a regular customer at the record store, who never believed in true love until he met Jackson. If this seems messy, it doesn't get any easier when Jed, Jacksons hunk cousin, shows up and Jackson suddenly starts thinking incestuous thoughts. Musician Sonny (played by Willy Garson who is Sarah Jessica Parker's gay friend in Sex and the City), suffers from a creative block, and asks Jackson to help him with lyrics for his next album. This is where everything really starts to get out of control. Everett Lewis depicts a community based on bodies. The opening scene is a picture painted in flesh. The concept of the body; the pure, lusting physical part of love is omnipresent which makes the occasional expression of sensitivity so much more vulnerable. Luster is a refreshingly dark comedy about the world of queer lust, sex and unrequited love. LISA TAUBE
