Students and gun fetichists Günther (August Diehl) and Paul (Daniel Brühl) have a suicide club together. The one thing worth dying for is love; love when it’s so powerful it’s irresistible. And anyone who dares obstruct the two young boys’ persuit will get a taste of their not so loving personal traits. They have sworn to take revenge on anyone who betray their love, and then depart this life with a smile. Set in Berlin in the end of the 1920’s, the story is based on a true and scandalous incident that produced big headlines in the press and schocked the German public. The young persons involved in the drama became somewhat famous or rather infamous, from the tragic incident known as the Steglitz student tradgedy of 1927. The film portraits the decadent and bohemian lifestyles beautifully, with good help from ingridients such as sexm absinthe, jazz and cool clothes. The mellow pace adds to the notion that something terrible is going to happen, we just don’t know exactly what. In addition to actor Daniel Brühl, both the producer and the scriptwriter of this film also worked on Good Bye Lenin!, one of last year’s more memorable German movies.
