Loser

Hank doesn't have any great ambitions with his life. He is thrown out by his girl-friend Peggy, who is sick of seeing him sitting in front of the TV, gulping down beer. When Hank rakes in S 200 million in the New York lottery, no one believes him. He does all he can to win Peggy back. A wild party breaks out. All of a sudden Hank is the guy every· one wants to know.

Hank, the main character in Loser, is described as a slightly naive man without any particular demands or expectations from life. He is portrayed by the Irish former boxer Brendan Kelly, who with his sheepish creation really hits the mark. Unemployed, broke, with the threat of eviction hanging over him and recently thrown out by his girl friend Peggy, he rakes in a lot of money on the lottery ticket he bought with his last money.
A wild party breaks out and Hank is king
of Brooklyn for a night. With power strug· gles, intrigues, cocame and sex, he hopes to win Peggy back - while everyone else hopes to get in on his money. But nothing lasts forever. It turns out that what really counts in the end are the small gestures.
Loser was filmed in only 16 days, on streets and In buildings to be demolished in Brooklyn, with 38 actors and 60 extras. No one was paid. Erik Burke, who wrote the script, directed and edited the film, managed to pay the small expenses with the help of his credit card.
The ''yuppified'' and ''successful'' 80's
are parodied like anything. Quick lines, mannered people, jokes about cocaine and hysteric music together create the total atmosphere. The moral is hard to miss, thank God. After maliciously laughing one's way through all of Hank's troubles, one receives immediate forgiveness.
