This was also planned for the same Hudson Theatre to follow ”Nude Restaurant” which did very poorly. During that time I had to take Andy and Viva on a lecture tour.
One of the stops was at a college in Tucson, Arizona. Someone there suggested that we make a film on this large Western Village constructed for John Wayne films and other western films. We visited and were told that if we said we were only making a student film the cost of one half days rental was only about $ 700.00. I devised a vehicle for Viva to star in, a western version of ”Romeo and Juliet”, ''Romona and Julien'' - feuding cowboys, cowgirls.
It was the very first elaborate production. A rental location, costly airfares and motel rooms, people to feed, things to plan for. I went ahead with Andy and rented the Village for Friday morning. The cast flew out on Thursday night. One half day at the Western Village in the rain, one day and a half on a dude ranch where we were all staying, one short sequence Sunday morning and everybody flew back to New York on Sunday afternoon.
We thought it funny enough to withold it from the Hudson and find a better, less costly theatre to show it in, which we did, about a year later. It did very well.
