Carl-Gustaf Nykvist calls this portrait of his father, the film photographer Sven Nykvist, a ''manifestation''. And this is truly a rich homage, supported by unique archive pictures and a chorus of distinguished Swedish and international voices among those Ingmar Bergman and Woody Allen, who lovingly elucidate the professional and private Sven Nykvist. It becomes even more interesting when other photographers like Vilmos Zsigmond' or Vittorio Storaro try to explain Sven Nykvist's special signet; an enigmatic light in his pictures that you can almost touch. But if that light permeated the career, the son can tell about dark recesses that existed in Sven Nykvist's taxed private life. All this gives both the theme and the film the human face that Sven himself captured in his pictures so masterly.
