Director Todd Field is back, five years after his smash debut In the Bedroom. With an ambitious, haunting and darkly humorous drama, he once again examines the cracks in American middle-class family life. This adaptation of the acclaimed novel Election, by Tom Perrotta, will linger in memory for a long time.Little Children follows a group of not so sympathetic people, who all refuse to grow up in one way or another. We meet the recently released pedophile, supported by his mother, but harassed by the local cop and a group of concerned parents. There is also the feminist Sarah, (brilliantly played by Kate Winslet) who finds herself lost in her role as a wife - especially after catching him masturbating to internet porn. When she meets Brad, who is married to filmmaker Kathy, a forbidden love story sets off. As the film’s parallel storylines start to intertwine, we’re heading towards an uneasy climax that will leave no one unmoved. ELINA WESSMAN
