When nine years old Cheung isn't at school he helps his father to deliver food both to mah-jong, gambling dens and brothels. Little Cheung - who also has an elder brother who has been involvep in criminal gangs for a long time - meets Fan, a girl of the same age and together they explore life from their childish viewpoint, glancing at everything from everyday events to bloody gang fights. Little Cheung is fhe third film in Fruit Chan's trilogy about China resuming sovereignty over Hong Kong on the 1st of July 1997. The first, Made in Hong Kong, was about teenagers who feel lost when they are confronted with the returning of Hong Kong to China. The Longest Summer, tells the story about a group of former Hong Kong Chinese soldiers who felt betrayed by the Englishmen and by their new country. Little Cheung shows us the changes in society seen from two children's viewpoint.
