Liar

The story revolves around the murder of a female prostitute, Elizabeth, who had a relationship with Wayland, who has been accused of her murder.
The Pate twins' first film”, The Grave”, was a hit at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival. It was also screened at Stockholms Film Festival 1996. At the same time, they wrote the screenplay to their next feature film”, Liar.”
The twins divide the directorial duties between them. In ”Liar”, Jonas worked mainly with cinematographer Bill Butler while Josh worked mainly with the actors.
”Liar” is a thriller in which the policemen Braxton and Kennesaw, and the accused, Wayland, play a kind of cat-and-mouse game with each other. Liar breaks completely with the usual American cop films which usually take place in New York or Los Angeles. Instead they've chosen Charleston, South Carolina as the setting, where they claim the ''gothic overtones'' of the south will come into play.
