Ladies Tea is a compact sociological study of a lesbian nightclub. With minimalistic, architectural imagery and neutral voice-over, there is no doubt that director Paula J. Durette is trying to defuse the issue of Lesbian culture. The picture of the club is strict and reminds you of the map of a treasure hunt where a cross marks the goal. The activities could be compared to exactly this, the search for the golden casket, or maybe even a game. Durette's picture of everyday or every night lesbian activities is clinical but also humorous. It is surprisingly efficient in its simplicity. SOFIA BULL
