The Missing Star

Vincenzo Buonavolonta is an engineer at a steel mill near Naples, Italy. When the mill closes down, its blast furnace is sold to a Chinese delegation. Knowing the machinery has a faulty device that has already caused serious accidents, Vincenzo tries to warn the buyers who ignore his advice. Determined to set things straight, Vincenzo leaves for Shanghai on a dogged quest to replace the device, teaming up with a young interpreter who visited the mill with the delegation. The unlikely pair embarks on a journey into the Chinese heartland – a seemingly hopeless mission that turns out to be a life-changing experience.Critically acclaimed director Gianni Amelio returns with a moving tale of a gentle working class hero on a quixotic mission to make things right.
