Korean President Kim Dae-Jung's career was filled with turbulence from the start. He enter~d politics when the Shyngman Rhee Administration (1948-60) grew increasingly dictatorial. In 1971, he ran against the all-powerful Park Chung Hee, and despite obstructionist tactics and illegal electioneering, Dae-Jung managed to garner 46% of the votes. From this time on, he experienced one of several attempts on his life. In 1973, agents of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency abducted Dae-Jung from a Tokyo hotel with the intention of getting rid of him. After strong objections from both the U.S.A. and Japan, he was released a week later in Seou I. KT is about this real-life kidnapping and deals with the sensitive issues spawned by the Japanese-Korean relations that were the consequence of WW2. It is a political espionage thriller, based on Eisuke Nakazono's book Rachi, which carefully recreates the landscapes of the 70's. Director Junji Sakamoto previously directed the awardwinning Face and KT was nominated for the Golden Bear at this year's Berlin Film Festival. BETTINA EDLUND
