The story is set in the Chinese New Year. A well-to-do Chinese businessman, Mongkol, lives in the heart of Bangkok with his family. Mongkol hires two Burmese immigrants. When they refuse to work during the holiday there's a fight between the Burmeses and Mongkol's son. Mongkol promises money to the men if they let his son go. They agree, but Mongkol double-crosses them and has them arrested. When the rest of the family is at a dinner party, one of the daughters stays at home. The Burmese have escaped from prison and come for their belongings. The daughter encounters the men, and they kill her. A crazy man, Dang, witnesses the murder. He helps to get the murderers caught. Kan Jam is the first independent movie in Thailand. The director used a hand-held camera to depict the madness of the world.
