Kiemas

Kiemas brings out the occasional and indifferent relations between neighbours in a large block of flats during the interwar period. The children make use of the yard as a playground. On the ground floor lives an older habitual drunkard with his wife and 16 year old daughter. All his time is invested in drinking beer together with an unemployed young man. The next door neighbours are a shoemaker and his cat. On the first floor there is a young couple living that are in a permanent crisis. Right across the hall lives an aristocratic grandmother nurturing concerns about the bad influence her daughter and granddaughter constantly are exposed to. Among the actors cine fans are likely to recognize is Donatas Banionis, who played a part in A 0 Tarkovsky's Solaris (1972).
