Not one single film concerning the Israeli army has been based on the experience of women. Until now. Outgoing rebel Smadar and introverted Mirit are two 18-year-olds doing their military service in Jerusalem. Together they patrol the city's border, assigned to check Palestinians’ papers and registering their details - a job that both Smadar and Mirit find unexciting and humiliating. In dealing with their own emotional issues as well as the political problems surrounding them in the city, the relationship between the two opposite personalities evolves into friendship.Driven by the lack of women’s experiences being depicted in Israeli cinema, filmmakers Dalia Hager and Vidi Bilu have created a an observant Middle-East allegory. It is a touching and authentic portrait of the modern Jerusalem, not afraid of discussing the difficult politics surrounding the conflict between Israel and Palestine.PONTUS MATHISSON
