The Eye and The Eye 2 established the Pang Brothers in the horror genre. With The Eye Infinity they have taken their own film franchise one step further. The main difference from the somewhat dark predecessors is the healthy dose of humour they have added to their successful formula. A group of Hong Kong kids visits a friend in Thailand, with plenty of sun and fun. One night while telling scary stories their Thai friend brings out a copy of the mysterious book 10 Encounters – an easy guide about how to see ghosts. Needless to say the group try out the different ways, which are quite innocent and silly in the beginning. But when one of the members disappears to the other side during the game of ghost-hide and seek, the mood changes and the second half of the movie becomes much darker and horror like. Still, there’s room for more silliness, such as a dance battle between a ghost and two break dancers. Few directors are able to balance the mix of horror and humour as the Pang Brothers. With their genuine knowledge of the genres, they manage to even make an ordinary basketball frightening simply by shifting camera angle and music. HENRIK EMILSON
