In Grudge 2 we are back at the haunted house and its downright infuriated demons, which played a central role in The Grudge, This time the story revolves around shooting a film about the events depicted in The Grudge, An actress
of horror films is the protagonist. After a visit to the house she has a miscarriage, yet goes on giving birth to diverse vengeful demons. Surprisingly enough, this movie works like a free-standing sequel. A more complex structure, not unlike Short Cuts, adds greater excitement to the relatively simplistic narrative, The Grudge 2 has recourse to all the tricks of the trade associated with horror-story sequels: spectacular effects set it apart from its predecessor, The atmosphere, as in part one, creeps up on you, while the family theme is taken a step further, In this sequence of movies as much as
in other horror films children are used to personify evil. One cannot avoid wondering whether adult views of children are somewhat estranged, Maybe the older generations fear the incoming generations, so much so that the latter are viewed as the harbinger ofthe former's death.
