Joseph wakes up to a day marked by anxiety. Something worrying has penetrated his everyday life and leaves him in an uneasy mood. Even when hanging out with his friends he feels alone and his mind wanders. Julia's situation is somewhat similar. Joseph & Julia beautifully and discreetly depicts the experience of being young and insecure - about yourself as well as about your relationships. It's about boy-girl relationships and the issue of parenthood but it also examines the question of gender in postindustrial society. The film is sparsely but elegantly shot with an ending that suggests a beginning. CARIN LARSSON
