Joint Security Area

Two soldiers, one from each country, have been found dead on the north side of the Korean border. A neutral investigation team arrives on the scene. Through hearings with the surviving soldiers, team leader Sophie finds out that things are not what they first seemed to be.

The hostility between the two Korean countries has often been used as a premise in South Korean action films. This movie contains a shift from that perspective. Emphasising discussions and mutual experiences across the border, it explores the very infected political situation in new ways. At the same time it carries all the stylistic qualities of a detective thriller, including the dubious flashbacks.
