Qi Ming, a country schoolteacher, arrives in the big city of Wuhan in search of his lost son. His wife is very ill and wishes to say goodbye to their son before she dies. In Wuhan Qi Ming is greeted by his daughter Yanhong (Chinese pop star Tian Yuan) who works as an escort girl at a karaoke bar. She introduces him to a sympathetic policeman who helps Qi Ming in his quest to find his son. But when the policeman meets Yanhong’s much older boss and lover, who drives a luxury car, he recognizes him as a man he arrested ten years earlier. This discovery leads to clues about what really happened to the lost son. In the last part of Wang Chao's trilogy about China, that begun with The Orphan of Anyang in 2001 and Night and Day in 2004, the director gives us a well played and beautiful drama. He portrays a country going through massive changes, torn between dreams of luxury and traditional ideals. EMILIA MELLBERG
