Writer/director, Kianoosh Ayyari, winner of numerous national and international awards, is back with a new film arisen out of experimentalism and classicism - Iranian Spread. Ayyari's experimental lust developed during the 1970's when he first started filming on 8mm, and is still present in his full-length features. Being an experimentalist not just in form, but in every aspect of filmmaking, Ayyari again and again deliver his auteur visions to the audience. Iranian Spread takes us on a journey across Iran - a country in change. Ayyari tracks a counterfeit bill being passed from one person to another. From hand to hand, from north to south, the bill travels from a market to the countryside, from a rich oil town to destitute villages. During the long travel a large group of people encounter the bill, and despite cultural, geographical, and ethnical differences they all show the same human reactions. Born in Iran, Ayyari has a keen feeling for the country's culture, and especially depicts it through folk music. Combining this with all other formal elements, and a shrewd and ironic humour, Ayyari has created a picture of Iran that feels authentic and genuine. NIKLAS MATSSON
