Shot in Lithuania, Invincible tells the true story of Zishe Breitbart, a Polish Jew who in the 30's joins a nightclub cabaret in Berlin. He is billed as the world's strongest man, something that the uprising Nazi party does not take kindly to. This triggers a chain of reactions where Zishe inevitably embarks on a path to tragedy.
Herzog, who has made both several documentaries and features and who is known for his breathtaking imagery and his way of intertwining reality and fiction, returns to the Stockholm Film Festival (in 1999 he starred in young whiz filmmaker Harmony Korine's julien donkey-boy) with this stunning document where the main character takes on the role as a modern day Samson to defend his own people. Herzog's most international cast ever stars Finnish actor Jouko Ahola as Breitbart, Tim Roth and Udo Kier, among others.
