Imagine if I Marry the Vicar ... I see myself a second-year student in the Royal Dramatic Theatre School - Walking down Sirger Jarlsgatan with the script under my arm ... Visibly!! So that Everybody!! But Everybody!! Could see it!!! I had been cast in the lead, the teacher who falls in love with a vicar ... Every actress in Scandinavia had wanted it. .. I got it... Wow!!
I became a star over night. .. Just like in the movies ... Ivar Johansson, a good film director, warm, friendly and funny .... The film still holds up ... and what a love story ... a bit sad ... but funny and finally triumphant... I kept the baby ... Of course I got pregnant, but continued teaching although the vicar wouldn't marry me ...
Afraid of intimacy and commitment?
''Married to God'', he said ... Life and fiction mingled ... Hopelessly in love with Rydeberg ... playing the vicar ... We had just
broken up ... He left me, or as he said, I left him ... Were we both afraid of intimacy and commitment? ... both married to acting?
.. it's a consuming profession ... I could have used it better perhaps, in the workthe heart aches, the passion- had I been a method actress ... that came later in my life ...
Rydeberg had children with other women ... ''Nobody will ever marry you'',
he had said. ''You have slept with too many men'' ... I wonder now is that why he didn't marry me. And come to think of it, and it makes me laugh ... I never asked him how many women he had slept with ... It didn't even occur to me ...
Then there was Hasso behind the camera ... photographing me brilliantly, helping me become a star ... And Oh Yes! Lovingly too! Wanting to marry me, make me the stepmother of his son Henry (Signe Hasso had gone to America) ... of course I did, and of course I did marry Harry ... someone wanted me, needed me ... And Harry gave me too, a son of my own ... My firstborn ...
Now what about the film? ... An enormouS success, it put Luxfilm - the company - on the map ... From then on, I was their star. .. We were a team ... What power ... If I had only known it...
