Illusions

av Lars Mullback

Christer lives in a small town, he is a recently divorced taxi driver and church-yard attendant. He leads a dull small-town existence. But then a young couple arrives, Marie and Erik, and Christer starts a new life. He finds the mysterious Marie totally bewitching. She is a paralysed beauty, a double nature who is only able to talk and move her head. With an insurance fraud in the background the story turns into an erotic triangle drama.

So much for the storyline. But there is also an underlying plot. The fourth dimension. In this dimension a church-yard attendant is not only a harmless churchyard attendant - but also a man capable of sneaking up on a defenseless woman to snatch off her duvet. Further on in this dimension you may see a corpse in a coffin, fully dressed, apart from certain parts in the middle. . .

The director has a cameo part à la Hitchcock. His participation is one of a series of details suggesting a community filled with ''wolves in sheep's clothing'', more Twin Peaks than the innocent shell suits of Swedish suburbia.
