Priyadarshan's new mish-mash Hungama explores fields of turbulence and well down-bred intrigues, but in a way that still catches your attention. It is the story of Anjali, who in her effort to find a new job in a new village finds herself wrapped up in a twisted situation of lies, hysteria and romance.
''
The numerous characters are spun into the plot through
soap-opera tendencies, which probably is exactly what the director deliberately is seeking to overtone. In comparison to other contemporary Bollywood comedies, Hungama stands
out as a vivid attempt to challenge the norms within the genre, by using the very tools that usually make it i~el stuck.
Interesting and daring - as always when someone overdoes a story on purpose - Hungama's strenght obviously
lies in what it brings to its spectators. For those who love to obsess over given stereotypes, this is t~e film of the century. It is certainly a future Bollywood classic, already having receieved full audience attention, back home.
