The middle ages are transcending into the renaissance era. Europe is changing. It usually takes a little longer in the country than in the cities. A young lawyer arrives in the countryside. He wants to spread the enlightenment of the new era. However, the world he encounters is far from enlightened; his first client turns out to be a pig, accused of murdering a small child. The owner of the pig is a young and beautiful gypsy woman.
The client is innocent, of course. The pig is a scapegoat. But higher powers has a finger in the pie; powers who want to keep the landscape in darkness. The leading character in the film is going to fight the local feudal lord. And by legally defending a pig, he will not only be fighting for his love for the pig's owner, but also paradoxically enough for a modern way at looking at things.
This story, one could say, is a regular fable, however humans are playing the leads.
