Hotel Splendide

A few guests are stuck in a cold, humid and miserable out-of-the-way health institute in futile attempts to cure their sick bodies with tasteless overcooked fish and seaweed dishes. The slender Stanley, suffers from sexual anxiety. The photophobic Sergei moves through the hallways as a cross between frogman, latex-fetishist and nightwalker and is afraid to show his love in other ways than asking for intestinal lavage. The beautiful Cora suffers from the tragic delusion that she is deformed. When the cook Kath returns to the hotel after an absence she spices the strange monotony and the tragicomic gallery of characters. The house itself begins to live. It drops, slimes, quivers, steams and snorts, the matron bursts with anger while the choleric Dezmond moves closer to total collapse and schizophrenia. This is a sensually surreal story that has food as its central metaphor.
