As the title suggests, Hollywood Hong Kong is a film about dreams. In this flick however, Hollywood does not primarily refer to the big dream factory in the west. Instead it's the name of a luxurious housing area, placed next to the urban ghetto of Hong Kong, where the slaughter Chu lives a quiet life in the ghetto together with his two sons and a pig called Mama. We also meet the 18-year-old pimp Wong Chi Keung and the beautiful but mysterious Tong Tong. These colourful characters all have something in common - their dreams. And they all dream of a better life than the ones they have.
With Hollywood Hong Kong, Fruit Chan tells burlesque stories about ordinary people with extraordinary visions.
