Henri Langlois might have been the world's greatest cineast. Driven by an enormous love for the art of filmmaking he dedicated his life to collecting films for the coming generations. What first began as a project of restoring old silent movies, soon evolved into a mission to find and restore every film ever made. Langlois thought every film had a value, especially as an artifact of the time in which it was made. During his working life he therefore managed to build up one of the most ambitious film archives in the world with more than 50 000 titles. ''Le Cinematheque Francais'', or ''Ie theque'' as some people would call it, became an embassy for the film world in Paris, and a sanctuary for directors and storytellers. It' s existence contributed to the recognition of film as an art form, and as an important mirror of the evolution of modern life.
Director Jacques Richard have spent seven years working onhis portrait of Henri Langlois. Through interviews with friends, colleagues and film enthusiasts this documentary tells the story of an extraordinary life, totally dedicated to the cinema.
