Director Edgar Reitz once said that the 20th century is thecentury of women. Therefore it is not surprising that he concludes the impressive Heimat-chronicle by telling his story once again, this time solely from a female point of view. The Heimat series, consisting of thirty feature-length episodes, follows the German family Simon through the 20th century. It has become one of the highest acclaimed series in TV history. This part sets off in New Year's Eve year 2000 and focuses on Lulu, the daughter of Hermann Simon. In order to find a direction in life, Lulu starts to seek answers from the past. With a spade and a drill in her hands she begins to dig into family memories. By visiting graveyards, relatives’ houses and places where difficult and important decisions have been made, she gets to know her female predecessors. Step by step the world around her becomes clearer and she begins to figure out her own place in history.KERSTIN ABRAHAMSSON
