Hard Luck Hero

Ishi convinces Asai to take the place of a Thai boxing champion who doesn't show up. Ikeyama and Kishimoto happen to have lunch at the restaurant where the fight takes place and small time crooks Fujita and Kudo hatch a scheme to steal a briefcase full of money from the Yakuza.
This action-comedy-bonanza signed actor/ director Sabu, centred around the prearranged boxing fight, finds the three pairs of young men crossing paths. In different ways they become involved in a chase by both the police and the trigger-happy Yakuza leader.
The six leads are played by the Japanese boy
band sensation V6, and the movie started out as a music video project. This is apparent in both visual style and the way in which Sabu underplays the narrative letting the same situations be shown from different viewpoints.
The movie deals with the shady opportunities that life presents, those moments of hard luck that either let you drink the sweet nectar of glory, or fuck you over big time. In Hard Luck Hero the leading parts are headed straight forward at full speed, unable to see in which direction they are heading.
