Films taking place during a short defined time - one afternoon, one day, perhaps 24 hours, often have a remarkably tense atmosphere, a kind of concentrated existence. This is particularly the case in Harrison's Groove. Partly because the film takes place in one single chaotic night when David Turner, a sleepy writer to be, is introduced to San Francisco's rave scene by his brother Colin, Partly because we get to know people who really seize the day; or rather the night. It is about an exalted presence of time, on the dance floor in some abandoned warehouse, as intense as a clattering drum'n'bass-groove. And Greg Harrison knows what he is talking about because the film is shot on location and sprung forth from his own experience. Groove was recognised and heatedly debated after the Sundance Film Festival this year.
