Grizzly Man

Grizzly Man

av Werner Herzog

Timothy Treadwell was a man devoted to his chosen task in life: to save the grizzly bears in Alaska. He spent 13 summers camping out in the wilderness, making contact with the wild grizzly bears and filming the bears’ everyday life, with himself as a part of it. He came close enough to touch and try to interact with the bears, close enough to finally get killed. In October 2003, Timothy Treadwell was found dead together with his girlfriend Amie Huguenard, after being mostly eaten by an old grizzly bear at the Grizzly Maze in Alaska. Today he has become a legend. Werner Herzog has made a very personal and close portrait of Timothy Treadwell and his life. By mixing archival footage, filmed by Treadwell himself in Alaska, and interviews with people who knew him, Herzog is telling a story of an exceptional and far from perfect man, as well as asking the delicate question whether Treadwell’s work actually saved the lives of the grizzlies or hurt them. Using beautiful landscape shots and intimate and heartbreaking encounters with the people in Treadwell’s life, Herzog has made a docudrama that reaches right into the hearts of the audience, making Timothy Treadwell immortal.
