Richard Lester's portrait of swinging London during the Beatles-era, has a lot of self-confident charm and merry anarchism. The thin narrative about how a couple of youngsters led by Rita Tushingham and Michael Crawford, transport a bed through London smells of the 60's, Carnaby Street and innocent revolution spirit. When the film was made thirtythree years ago, Lester's pop-culture commercial style with its fast cuts and disrespectful jokes was the height of modernity. Today The Knack is a charming antiquity.
