In Cidade de Deus, one of the most violent neighbourhoods of Rio de Janerio, two young boys, Laranjinha and Acerola, are searching for cash. Although just kids, they have already learnt all the rules of the street. They are drawn deeper and deeper down into a life of crime, dope dealing and murder. With a realistic, almost documentary, cinematography directors Katia Lund and Fernando Meirelles (who also directed the feature film Cidade de Deus with a similar approach) tell us a fascinating tale about the street kids of Rio. Golden Gate won the award for Best Short Film at the Aspen Shortslest, and the Panorama Award of the New York Film Academy at the Berlin Film Festival this year. PER NYSTRÖM
