Rita Page, once a dancer in glittering Las Vegas shows, sends her untalented daughter Franchesca to an audition for a Broadway-musical. To everybody's surprise, she gets the leading part. But the musical is only a pawn in a vicious economical game. It is brought to light that Rita and Franchesca are involontarily involved in a scoundrelly skein, with the mean producer Veronica in the lead. The mother and the daughter have to reveal the vicious intrigues that are happening, and at the same time promote Franchesca Page as a star.
The story about the former wannabee now seeking rehabilitation through her daughter is an old and well known concept. This concept is also very grateful to use if you want to describe complicated relations between mother and daughter.
Here, in ”Franchesca Page”, this story is presented in a humorously and visually appealing way.
The director is experienced from the metropolis of the fashionworld, and surely in this film he uses the environments he has visited earlier in his career. This sensational director's debut and diva-larded musical is like a mix between ”Priscilla Queen of the Desert” and ”The Producers”.
