Based on a true story, Piranha Blues starts off with one of Belgium's largest corruption scandals. We follow Willem W, whose father is one of the main suspects. After star reporter Johannes van Buren mocks Willem on tv, he decides to get even. The start of Film 1 could hardly be more, autobiographical. Director Willem Wallyn was the spokesman when his father was indicted of money, laundering at the highest political level. The story was born through his complex relationship to the media during the trial. For the Willem of the film it is aall about degrading van Buren as much as he can - to offer up van Buren's dirtiest secrets to the public. The psychological undercurrents are portrayed with great nerve and the film evokes many questions surrounding lindividuals caught in the crossfire of the search for scandals.
