Late 70's: in a typical Swedish villa suburb lives your ordinary middle class family, the Bendricks. During four chaotic days, their private secrets will slowly tear apart the fragile idyll that they so desperately cling on to. This is also the case with their jerry-built villa, which at the same time starts to crumble. Scriptwriter Håkan Lindhé's delicate and The Ice Storm-alike story have found the right interpreter in veteran director Kjell-Åke Andersson.
Family Secrets can be perceived as paying homage to the lost Swedish welfare state but it is equally an ode to human capacity to forgive and start over.
