Fake is a somewhat artsy movie about three flatmates dealing with the complexities of life in present-day Bangkok. Bae just lost his job and got dumped by his girlfriend, Poe is the photographer and ladies’ man who falls in love for the first time and Soong attempts to find his place in life by trying out different jobs. They all have a common problem – girls- and they deal with it in their own special way.
Fake is shot in episodes and each and every one of the three leading characters get one third of the film to tell the story from his own perspective. Each part of the film also has its distinct colors and locations, providing the spectators with information about the characters’ moods and personalities. But the stories overlap and the characters’ paths cross more than once during the course of the movie.
Fake also functions as a snapshot from the hectic big city life of Bangkok, which presents several beautiful and stylish locations. Interesting visual ideas, broken chronology and a certain amount of mysticism makes this a daring debut by young Thai director Thanakorn Pongsuwan. The Vancouver International Film Festival nominated it for the Dragon & Tigers award.
