Evil Ed

Evil Ed

av Anders Jacobsson

A deranged splatter-movie editor has locked himself into his workroom. There is no doubt that he is going off his head -fast. Outside the rest of the staff are trying to calm him down and open the door. When the manager finally manages to break into the room, the editor has mummified himself in film strips and a hand grenade is in his mouth. An exploding head brings the plot up to date. The manager needs to find a replacement quickly. This is where Edward Svensson enters the plot. He is the editor of the art film department, however he immediately gets a transfer to the more lucrative splatter and gore section. Edward edits out the most grotesque sequences to prevent the films from being banned. He is stationed in a house outside town, with his film and an editing suite. His only contact with ''the world outside'' are his phone calls to his wife. The main part of the film material consist of the series ''Loose Limbs'', which he meticulously slaughters beyond recognition. Edward is neatness and normality personified. With gloved hands he puts his penciIs in a row on his desk every night. After that he takes off his gloves and puts them in line next to the pencils. When his inner transformation begins, the pencils are the first to show any signs of disorder. Edward begins to hallucinate; disfigured faces, cut-off arms and Gremlin-like monsters in the fridge. Soon the films who used to make him sick becomes his necessary lifeblood. Edward becomes Ed - Evil Ed. This is a Swedish film and all the more fun because of it. Evil Ed is a satire, however more than anything it is a tribute to those films who are usually filed under the horror category (not always correctly). A true fan of splatter films will have no problems recognizing scenes from the Evil Dead-films, mainly the first sequel. The cinematography might as well have been taken from a film by Sam Raimi. Evil Ed has the necessary distance and wit to get away with it. Just listen to the final monologue of the film! The director David Lynch is also referred to. ''Don't you fucking look at me! '', from Blue Velvet (1986) is the most recurrent line in the film. All the little details and references makes Evil Ed a must for the fanatic. However it is both fun and worthwhile for the'' average'' filmgoer as well, if you can take the severed limbs and the exploding scraps of flesh, that is. MAD
