She feels awful, really awful, 35-year-old Christine Blanc. Fed up with the life of a temporary secretary, she withdraws ever more from colleagues, surroundings, and from herself. Hers is a fantasy boyfriend, and her desperate attempts to get close to her boss end up in fiasco. Suddenly Ch(istine finds herself in a dream-like state where she is-a murderer enjoying job security. One chief of police, together with a male colleague, has his suspicions and decides to hang around the at first sight prosperous secretary. Christine is however beyond help.
French director Siegrid Alnoy's debut may be gauged as a critique ofthe ever growing issue of what do with the
unemployed. But this film is as well a surprisingly mature attempt at depicting the inner side of human degeneration. Alnoy has recourse to minimalistic dialogue, long camera trackings and subtle electronic background music to elicit
in the moviegoer an agreeable disquiet which will parallel Christine's wowing desperation. The photography of Christophe Pollock is like a never-ending work of art, providing stunningly beautiful milieux for Christine, solidly played by the newcomer Sasha Andres. With Elle est des Nôtres Alnoy shows us that she is One of France's most interesting young filmmakers.
