Elevator

Jan Sarman is host of the tv show That's 'life, a forum for investigative journalism, which, literally destroys people's lives. The show is masked as a heroic project, but is actually driven by Sarman's own vanity and arrogance. On his way to a lovers rendezvous he gets stuck in an elevator. And what start off as an unfortunate series of coincidences quickly reveal themselves as a very sinister plan. Asansor is a media-critical thriller and it is both dramaturgically and thematically very strong. Altioklar borrows the elevatorscenario from Louis Malle's classic Elevator to the Gallows (1958) but lets it swell out into a metaphor of the contemporary media. There are many allegorical points of view for the observant watcher, but also very flighty and colourful imagery with unexpected camera angles.
