East of A

Three young and, thoroughly unsettled people find a large apartment in the New York of 1985, despite the city's slwtage of housing, The apartment is at first the only thing they have in common, and the catch to the contract is that if is binding for ten years. They are two men and one woman: one defected priest, a drifter with a drug problem, and a wannabe singer. We follow the friends for one day per year from 1985 to 1995. The concept is clear: three young, hungry and completely differen't people in a flat, whose lives are spiced up with sex, drugs, misunderstandings, friendship and relationships. Young, smart, exciting city people in a complex relation to adulthood is a popular theme on television and the movies today. East of A is a darker version of tv's Friends and Seinfeld, with Iess comedy and more theatre-drama. Everything takes place inside the apartment. The budget is said to have been small, the actors are relatively unknown, the commercial gaiety, is toned down and the realism enhanced.
