After a memorable and upsetting journey through the Carpathians Reinfelt arrives late on a rainy night at Count Dracula's castle. His purpose is to seal the sale of Carfax Abbey in London. Reinfelt gets drugged and hypnotised and becomes one of Count Dracula's servants that will protect him on the journey to London. Count Dracula soon meets Mina Seward and her friend Lucy Weston. After transforming Lucy into a vampire the handsome count becomes increasingly interested in Mina. When Count Dracula wants something you better watch yourself. He can be very persistent. This is one of the big classics. Not only does the renowned Bela Lugosi play Count Dracula - it was the Hungarian 'vampire's' film breakthrough. The first twenty minutes of Browning's film are without a doubt some of the most magnificent in film history. The footage is extraordinarily tasteful and the scenery remarkably exquisite. Browning's Dracula has in its original version a very economic soundtrack. In this version Glass has composed a new, more expressive music, increasing the tempo considerably and making the film as a whole more vital. But it's not only the music and the photo graphy that are extraordinary, - take for instance the simple detail that they actually speak Hungarian up there in the Carpathians.
