Four different people offer four different expressions of the desperation, frustration, and desire for that special kind of love and closeness that we all believe we deserve.
Even though Angie is middle-aged, she still has her looks. She sells pot and grass to get an income, and also satisfies David's sadomasochistic needs. David is a young college student who is suffering the pains of a guilty heart, since he is cheating on his beautiful and loving, but oh so distant, girlfriend with Angie. Tony, David's roommate, therefore has to face the worst side of David's frustration and anger. Tony is a slightly dumb and insecure lumberyard worker who is trying to make friends and possibly find a girlfriend, but mostly gets on everybody's nerves. Nancy rents a room in Angie's basement. Her compulsive shopping problem has destroyed her personal finances. Unable to find a job fitting her secretarial education, she now works at
a supermarket, with a salary far too low for her credit card bills.
Seldom do you see actors surrender themselves so completely to their characters as in Dirty. The fi I m shows very personal scenes that would at most be hinted
in most other films. A factor is also the skillful camerawork, the scenes are very long and filmed so naturally that you forget that you are watching a movie. You sometimes feel like a dirty voyeur, prying into the inner dark secrets of the characters' lives.
Dirtyshows, with much openness and some dark humor, how hard it can be to give and receive the love you so dearly want to show and have, and also that it can be just as hard to reject unwanted love.
